5th May 2008

Tonights show I have played a track from each year between 1979 - 2006 to give an idea of how hip hop has changed, progressed and even digressed throughout this timeframe. I hope you enjoy the show and feel free to drop some comments as I may do another one in the future months.

I will say the one comment I am thinking on is why didnt I play the tracks in yearly order... I thought it would sound too repetitive doing it this way, but I could be wrong so my next one I will most likely do in order.

Ok so we have one comment in the shoutbox from Yogee. That will scroll into obscurity over the weeks so to keep the topic alive I will answer in here and you can discuss your opinions too.

Missy Elliot is Hip Hop just a different more commercial market. Yes hardcore bboys will diss it and say that all it is good for is to blaze in the club. I do like some of her tracks if I'm honest. Yes she is in it for the money and I would say the love of the art is secondary to her chart success.

Another thing which I have noticed over the years with marketing and hip hop... The Source magazine in my opinion was bad for hip hop. A lot of that 5 mic awarding was wack. Source magazine to me seemed too focussed on Gangsta Rap and not Hip Hop as an art
